TWIN DRIVE NEW The Sharkoon Twin Drive is a practical solution for users who are already hoarding several discarded hard drives in their spare parts collection. Now two of those can find their way back into a useful existence in the Twin Drive as external, mobile memory expansions. Of course, two brand new hard drives can be installed just as easily. Whoever needs to copy and transport large amounts of data from their PC often (or just likes to trump their fellow users by having bigger and better) can simply install two hard drives with the maximum memory capacity available on the market, adding for example two 500 Gigabyte drives together for a full Terabyte of expanded memory. The two hard drives are operated using the integrated controller either over the master-slave configuration or in “cable select” mode. The controller has two 4-pin power connections and an IDE cable with two 40-pin hard drive connections. The Twin Drive uses a fast USB 2.0 connection for the data transfer with the PC, and a power adapter is included in delivery. The Twin Drive’s simple black housing is constructed of high-quality, heat-dissipating aluminum. Despite being occupied by two drives, the housing still only measures 11 x 20 x 6.5 cm, and the front and back housing panels are made from a fine metal mesh. The slide-in cart for the drives is easy to insert and remove from the housing using knurled screws, whose four heads actually act as vibration-free feet on the underside of the housing, since the screw shafts aren’t in direct contact with any vibrating parts. The Sharkoon Twin Drive supports USB 2.0 with a data transfer rate of up to 480 MBit/s as well as PlugPlay.
