More information

One day, Segway inventor Dean Kamen spotted a young man trying to ride a Segway on the sidewalk. He realized that the problem was not the inefficient design of the wheelchair, but that the world was built for those who could control the balance. Consequently, he and his team created the Independence IBOT™ Mobility System, a device that can control stability and allow users to climb stairs and face unexpected obstacles in the field. He then discovered great potential in this type of transporter for people with full mobility. Our inspiration for the name Segway comes from the word "seque", which is defined as a smooth transition from one state to another. The Segway transforms a person into a motorized walker with the ability to go farther, faster and carry more.
