Software company specializing in computer graphics, publishing and prepress. It is best known as the author of the PostScript and PDF standards and the manufacturer of the Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator graphics programs and the Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro) / Adobe Reader PDF publishing/reading programs. The company was founded by John Warnock and Charles Geschke in December 1982 in San Jose, California. In 1994, they purchased Aldus, the creator of the widely used Pagemaker typesetting software. In 1999, they bought GoLive with their WYSIWYG HTML editor. In late 2005, Adobe bought Macromedia. The company is named after Adobe Creek, flowing behind John Warnock's home in Los Altos, California.
